Santa Travelling In Style To Monifieth

Santa will arrive in style when he visits Monifieth for the town’s Christmas lights switch on.

This year’s ceremony has been organised by the Monifieth Area Partnership, and marks the organisation’s first Christmas community celebration.

Father Christmas will arrive by limo on Friday 3 December to join in the festive fun.

The event will feature a festive set from the Monifieth High School wind band, as well as performances by Grange Primary School and Seaview Primary School choirs and the local youth group Dance 4Real.

The entertainment starts at 6.30pm in Monifieth High Street and Reform Street Square.

The evening, co-ordinated in partnership with Monifieth Community Council, Monifieth Rotary Club, Monifieth Local History Society, Angus Council, Tayside Police and many local businesses, will be opened by Depute Provost Stewart McGlynn, who will welcome Santa and switch on the Christmas lights.

Refreshments of different varieties will be available on the night.

The final touches for this event were discussed at the last Monifieth Area Partnership meeting, held on Tuesday 16 November, along with plans for possible projects and events for 2005.

The Monifieth Area Partnership works with groups and individuals including the Angus Community Planning Partnership to influence and improve the delivery of all public services across the area.

As well as canvassing for volunteers for specific events, the partnership has a role to play in raising the profile of local projects, which require resources or issues in which a partnership approach may benefit the outcome.

If you are looking for help with an idea or project, or want to work in partnership with other local groups towards a better Monifieth, then the partnership wants to hear from you.

The date of the next partnership meeting is to be confirmed but will be in January 2005.

Details will be released when available and everyone is most welcome to attend. In the mean time, please direct any enquiries to Ian Mortimer, Chair, Monifieth Area Partnership on (01382) 532941.
