Schools Project Takes Step Forward
The £50million school improvement project in Forfar and Carnoustie has taken a major step forward.
Angus Council has invited three consortia to tender for the work, which will see five new schools built, and two refurbished.
The Forfar/Carnoustie schools project stimulated great interest from the market place and the three successful candidates are; Alpha Schools Consortia led by Morrison Project Investments Ltd, NYOP Education Consortia led by PFI Solutions Ltd, and Robertson's Education Consortia led by Robertson's Capital Projects Ltd.
Welcoming the news that the bidders had been appointed, Angus Council's Education Convener Jack Gibb, said: "I am delighted that we have been able to appoint such strong candidates who are enthusiastic about the exciting and ambitious nature of the project, and working with the council in its development.
"The successful bidder will not only carry out the construction work, but thereafter operate and maintain the new buildings.
"These companies have experience in Scotland, the UK and throughout Europe and during the next few months the project team will be working with the bidders on all aspects of the project not least of which would be site specific designs for the schools."
Councillor Gibb stressed that consultation will continue to take place with the school communities, starting early in the New Year and continuing during the bid phase.
It is anticipated that the preferred bidder will be announced around September 2005.
The project programme should see new schools at Thomas Street and Woodlands in Carnoustie and Kirkriggs and Whitehills in Forfar opening in August 2007.
Carlogie will have its refurbishment completed by April 2008 with a new Langlands, Forfar, and refurbished Carnoustie High School finished in August 2008.
