Montrose Bridge Going Going Gone!
The demolition of Montrose Bridge has been captured on video. The short film, commissioned by bridge contractors Balfour Beatty, shows the removal of the 1930 concrete bridge. The film is being sold in aid of the DebRA charity (epidermolysis bullosa - EB).
The DVDs and videos, both priced at £6.99, will be available from Wednesday (22 December) from TESCO in Montrose, DebRA shops (website www.debra.org.uk or tel: 01698 424210) and at Balfour Beatty's site offices in Croft Road, Montrose (Tel:01674 676248).
The old bridge was demolished in October this year. A 4000 tonne capacity marine crane (RAMBIZ) lifted the bridge in three sections from its supports to the south quayside. The complex operation took a year to plan and what was touted as a record breaking lift with two 2200 tonne spans lifted by the floating crane was completed over three days.
A temporary bridge is currently in operation while a new bridge is constructed in the same location as the old one.
