Cycling Celebration In Angus
Angus is getting geared up for an annual celebration of cycling.
Angus Bike Week 2005 is launched with a pedaling picnic for the whole family from Carnoustie Leisure Centre to Monifieth and back.
The event takes place on Sunday 12 June at 12noon, and will include displays of bike related information in the leisure centre, freebies, certificates and goodie bags for children.
Youngsters, who must be accompanied by an adult, will also get their 'passports' stamped on various parts of the journey.
Participants advised to register their interest with Rosie Manson on (01307) 473573 or email mansonrc@angus.gov.uk by Wednesday 8 June.
Evening fun runs have also been organised for Monday 13 June from Arbroath Sports Centre, Tuesday 14 June from Brechin Leisure Centre, and Lochside Leisure Centre in Forfar on Wednesday 15 June, in conjunction with Angus Cycling Touring Club - all starting at 6.30pm.
The pedalling picnic and evening fun runs are being led by trained cycle ride leaders from the council's Leisure Services Department.
The council is also organising a poster competition for Angus primary sevens on the theme of Angus Bike Week.
The winner is to receive a brand new bike - kindly donated by the Outdoor Store in Forfar - and there are three runners up prizes of £25 vouchers to be spent in the Outdoor Store.
Bike Breakfasts are being organised in secondary schools and arrangements are being made to carry out bike coding also in the secondary schools.
