New Schools Officially Underway
The new schools project in Forfar and Carnoustie got officially underway this week.
Sod cutting ceremonies took place at Whitehills in Forfar and Thomas Street in Carnoustie to mark the start of the £50m project.
In attendance were pupils who will attend the new schools in each of the burghs and representatives from Angus Council and contractors Robertson Education.
Welcoming the start on site, Education Convener Jack Gibb said: “I am delighted to see this start on site to provide high quality schools for Carnoustie and Forfar pupils and look forward to these new buildings taking shape. I would also like to thank all those on the Angus PPP team whose hard work has seen this project come to fruition.”
A letter has gone to parents outlining the arrangements during the construction period and Angus Council will hold meetings in January to keep parents updated.
The project will see new schools completed at Thomas Street and Woodlands by winter 2007 with Carlogie being rebuilt by autumn 2008. The new teaching facility at Carnoustie High School will also be available towards the end of 2008.
In Forfar the project will see new schools completed at Kirkriggs and Whitehills in winter 2007 with Langlands being available by early 2009
