Unwanted Mail Campaign Launched
Angus Council is supporting a campaign to encourage householders to reduce unwanted mail.
The campaign was launched by the Scottish Waste Awareness Group (SWAG) at the 6th Annual Scottish Waste Management Conference in Glasgow.
Over a third of direct mail is currently discarded unopened and the aim of the unwanted mail campaign is to raise awareness of the impact of this on the environment and help householders take action to reduce unwanted mail.
Launching the campaign Dr Nicki Souter, SWAG campaign manager, said: “Reducing the amount of unwanted mail delivered to Scottish householders is a key action of the Scottish Government's Household Waste Prevention Action Plan. Our goal is to reduce unwanted mail by ten per cent by 2010.”
The Zero Waste Scotland website outlines the five key ways to reduce unwanted mail with direct links to the relevant organisations and template letters to help householders follow the five steps. The website also offers consumers advice on data protection and their rights regarding direct marketing.
