Primary Day Of Song
A wonderfully uplifting and enjoyable day was experienced by all participants at the Primary Day of Song held in Forfar’s Reid Hall recently.
The programme was organised to give a balance of individual school and group performances with many schools participating in the class and group songs.
The aim of the day was to enhance pupils’ enjoyment in the performance of singing solo, in class groups and en masse.
Eighteen primary schools - Newtyle, Aberlemno, Northmuir, Langlands, Ferryden, Edzell, Woodlands, Maisondieu, Colliston, Airlie, Rosemount, Newbigging, Glenisla, Kilry, Lintrathen, Carlogie, Letham, Whitehills - sang a chosen song.
There was an eclectic mix, ranging from an energetic rendition of Drunken Sailor by Whitehills pupils to an enlivened performance of Brazilia by Newbigging pupils; a melodious performance of Water of Life by Glenisla/Kilry/Lintrathen to a captivating version of Any Dream Will Do by Carlogie; an enjoyable rendition of I Close my Eyes by Letham to a harmonious Colours of the Wind performed by Inverkeilor; a cheerful performance of Soldier Soldier by Arbirlot to an uplifting version of Believe by Rosemount pupils. Whitehills Gaelic pupils also entertained with a song in Gaelic.
Interspersed with the class songs, the pupils also sang songs en masse with the sound filling the hall; the children showing obvious enjoyment of the experience. In the afternoon, the instrumental instructors performed musical items with the children learning about the different sections of an orchestra.
The day was concluded with a rousing performance by the children of all group songs to the accompaniment of the orchestra. There were smiling faces and cheers all round as the encore of the final song finished, proof that the day’s aim had certainly been achieved.
