Kirriemuir Town Hall Revamp

An Angus company has been awarded the tender for the revamp of Kirriemuir Town Hall.

Forfar company RS Hill will carry out the £800,000 project, which includes a new kitchen extension, external ramps, steps and walkways, alterations and refurbishment to the back stage areas incorporating accessible toilet facilities and upgrading of stage area.

Works also include rewiring, new fire detection and alarm system, new intruder alarm system, replacement of radiators, and complete internal redecoration.

The first phase is programmed to start in August 2009 with completion by March 2010 and the second phase, which involves external works to the library and town hall entrance areas, is due to start in June 2010 with completion by August 2010.

The construction programme has been split into two phases to ensure that no works are carried out on the building during May 2010, which is the date of the celebration of the 150th birthday of JM Barrie.

Vice-convener of corporate services John Whyte said: "I am pleased that with the awarding of this tender we can now progress this much needed work to Kirriemuir Town Hall to ensure it remains a valuable asset to the people of the burgh."

Hall bookings will continue to be taken until the start of the work in August.
