Leaflet Will Help Promote Recycling In Angus
Angus Council has produced a leaflet in four languages to help ethnic minority communities to recycle.
The leaflet is intended to help Eastern European migrant workers and their families in Angus to recycle, by explaining how the kerbside recycling service works and what items can be taken to the recycling centres. The leaflet is written in Polish, Czech, Russian and English.
The population of migrant workers was about 4000 last year, which includes around 2,500 people who live in Angus throughout the year. The three most widely spoken languages in the county, after English, are Polish, Czech and Russian.
Some areas in Angus have on-going problems with side waste left next to the grey bin and it is hoped that this leaflet will help those who are new to the area to reduce side waste by using their green boxes and green bins.
Convener of Infrastructure Services, David May said: "A significant percentage of the population in Angus now speak a language other than English as their first language. We feel that it is important to make information about Angus Council's services readily available to all, and recycling is no exception.
"With a target of 40% recycling and composting to achieve by 2010 it is important that we are actively engaged in encouraging all householders to recycle and making it accessible for all."
The leaflet is available in the ACCESS Offices, libraries, community education centres, volunteer centres and similar locations around Angus. A leaflet can be requested by calling the ACCESSLine on 08452 777 778. For further information or to converse in another language call the ACCESSLine.
