Summer Reading Programme Launched At Arbroath Library
Local children are being invited to Arbroath Library this weekend for a day of fun to mark the launch of a summer reading programme.
The 2009 Summer Reading Challenge is the 11th annual challenge with children all over the UK being invited to embark on a fantastical adventure and become a Quest Seeker.
The theme is all about the power of the imagination. It will take young readers into a mysterious and wondrous land where they can discover the joy of reading and nurture a life-long love affair with books. It also promotes the library as a place of wonder and excitement, where librarians can offer children invaluable advice and guidance to help them through their quest.
The aim of the challenge is to get children to read six books from their local library during the summer holidays and join in a fantasy quest in their search for the golden book.
Everyone who signs up for the Summer Reading Challenge 2009 receives a moving image membership card and can keep track of the books they read on a special fold-out poster. It's great fun for kids and there are gaps on the poster that can be filled in with stickers when they next visit the library.
To mark the launch of challenge, there will be variety of activities taking place at Arbroath Library on Saturday 4 July, including a visit from Dougie the Dragon, the Arbroath Abbey Timethemes volunteers in full costume and street entertainment.
You don't have to be a library member to take part in the reading challenge - just drop and join on the day.
