Searching for Angus Sports Stars!

Angus Sports Council is looking for the county's sporting stars to step into the spotlight at its annual sports awards ceremony taking place in March this year. Nomination forms are available now with athletes, players, coaches, friends and family encouraged to submit forms for consideration by the selection panel.

Cllr Colin Brown and Colin Knight

Launched in 1996 these awards have been a resounding success and have raised awareness of sporting strengths in the county - from top amateur golfers and archers, to swimmers and horse riders through to the hundreds of local volunteers, coaches, officials and administrators, who give of their time to support these budding sporting champions and provide valuable opportunities for athletes of all levels to participate regularly in their chosen activity through the many sports clubs across Angus.

Once again Angus Sports Council is looking to honour the commitment, achievements and dedication of all these individuals and teams at all levels of sport across Angus. The Angus Sports Awards 2009, supported by Angus Council sports development team along with Angus Ahead, the area marketing campaign set up to fly the flag for the county at home and abroad, will take place on Tuesday 9 March 2010 in the Reid Hall, Forfar.

Radio Tay is again showing their support for the Angus Sports Awards by hosting and broadcasting the event. The local broadcasting station is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year so this will only add to the celebrations at the ceremony.

Councillor Colin Brown, Neighbourhood Services vice-convener, commented "I would encourage as many people as possible to provide nominations for the Angus Sports Awards so that we can celebrate the achievements of local sports people, coaches, administrators and volunteers across Angus. The county is clearly rich with sporting talent assisted by the continued support of the willing and eager volunteers who give their spare time to sporting activities in the local area. Angus Sports Council believes that this should be recognised and rewarded and we look forward to another fantastic evening in March."

Nominations are required in six categories:
