Rachael Bibby - Painted Consciousness

The Meffan in Forfar is hosting an exhibition of work by artist Rachael Bibby.

Rachael is a recent graduate of Edinburgh College of Art where she completed her Master's degree in Drawing and Painting.

Rachel was a pupil at Arbroath High School where she gained an Advanced Higher in art whilst taking a life drawing and portfolio course at Duncan of Jordanstone. During this course she realised her interest in the human figure and portraiture, subjects that remain central to her work today.

Her degree show was highly successful and she was awarded an Andrew Grant Bequest Award and a scholarship for funding to continue on at Edinburgh for a further two years to study for a Master of Fine Arts.

During these two years she was able to develop her portraiture and became fascinated with ideas around the process of painting and the thought processes involved in producing work. Since finishing her studies her work has retained elements of all of these ideas and themes but has branched off into various different mediums such as video and photography.

The exhibition, entitled Painted Consciousness, opens to the public on Saturday 20 March and runs until 17 April, admission is free.

The Meffan, 20 West High Street, Forfar, is open Monday to Saturday, 10am – 5pm.
