Which Writer Wins In Monifieth
Primary 5 pupils in the Monifieth cluster of schools have unveiled their favourite author.
The pupils have been taking part in Which Writer Wins? - a competition designed to give primary school pupils the same opportunity that secondary students enjoy through the successful Angus Book Awards.
This term pupils have spent the last six weeks reading books by Geraldine McCaughrean, Jenny Nimmo and Kaye Umansky before voting for their favourite author. This is an annual initiative to encourage reading for enjoyment.
On Friday 19 March, the pupils gathered at Seaview Primary to hear the winner announced with guest of honour story teller Robbie Fotheringham.
Pupils from each school spoke about which of the authors they had enjoyed reading and gave entertaining reviews of some of the titles. Hazel Cook, Monifieth Librarian then revealed the results for the Monifieth Cluster of schools, which were 1st Kaye Umansky, 2nd Jenny Nimmo 3rd Geraldine McCaughrean
Hazel commended the pupils for the confident way in which the boys and girls had spoken and commented about the significant impact the project had had on borrowing within the burgh library. Figures showed that so many pupils had been reading the titles of the authors that even the additional stocks brought in for the project were now quite depleted.
