Primary School - General Information

Children commence primary school at approximately five years of age and receive seven years of primary education before moving on to secondary school.

Primary schools provide teaching experiences to develop children's knowledge, skills and understanding in English Language, Mathematics, Environmental Studies, Expressive Arts and Religious Education.

Primary schools provide an environment which promotes the importance of personal and social development.

All primary schools cover stages P1-7. School hours are between 9 am and 3.30 pm but there are minor local variations depending on the length of breaks allowed for lunch and intervals.

At present (September 2007) there are 8695 children registered in Angus primary schools.
