The Tay Project
The Tay Project runs programmes for adult offenders, convicted of sexual offences, from Perth & Kinross, Angus and Dundee. The programmes aim to reduce the likelihood of further offending. Offenders attending these programmes will be supervised either:
- on a probation order imposed by the court; or
- on a licence on their release from prison
Before starting any of the programmes, offenders will be assessed by the Tay Project and a Angus Council Criminal Justice Social Worker for suitability.
Aims
The programmes help offenders to:-
- understand the impact of sexual offending on victims
- understand thoughts, feelings and behaviour and how to change
- learn what to do to stop offending
- prevent re-offending
- learn how to avoid difficult places, situations and patterns of behaviour
- understand risk and how to change
Individuals must be willing to talk about themselves and their offending behaviour in order to understand how to change.
Whilst attending programmes, offenders will also attend appointments with a social worker from their local authority Criminal Justice Service.
The following programmes are available:
Community Sex Offenders Groupwork Programme (CSOGP)
This is a groupwork programme where individuals will be required to attend between 100-240 hours depending on assessed need. Individuals must be over 21 years old.
Individual Programme
If an offender is assessed as unsuitable for attending a groupwork programme then they will be subject to an individual programme. This programme is delivered by the individual's social worker and a Tay Project worker. The length of the programme is dependent on the individual's progress. Individuals must be at least 17 years old.
Key Programme
This programme is for offenders with a learning disability. It can be delivered individually and/or in a group. The length of the programme is dependent on the individual's progress. Individuals must be at least 17 years old.
