Roads
If you are out and about during adverse weather please bear in mind that the council cannot clear all routes at all times, so please take account of weather conditions and drive appropriately. Drivers are reminded that even treated roads may be prone to icing during periods of cold weather, as salt is less effective when there is intermittent rainfall or when temperatures fall below -5°C.
Up-to-date roads information is available from Traffic Scotland.
When driving in adverse weather motorists are reminded that:
- road conditions vary with the weather and can change just as quickly
- it is not possible to keep roads free of snow and ice at all times
- even when roads have been salted it takes some time for salt to become effective
- rain and sleet can wash salt from the road leaving it prone to icing again
- in extremely cold weather salt will not prevent ice from forming
In adverse weather you may prefer to use public transport or to car share to reduce the number of vehicles on the road - check out www.angusliftshare.com for more information.

Good Neighbours
If you have an older or less mobile relative, friend or neighbour please keep in contact with them in periods of severe weather to ensure they are all right. They may appreciate some help with shopping etc during any spells of severe winter weather, so let them know you are willing to help. Family and friends are urged to keep in touch with elderly people to ensure their wellbeing.
You may be entitled to additional financial benefits during spells of particularly cold weather.
- If you're on a low income, Cold Weather Payments may be available to help you for each week of very cold weather in your area
- If you are aged 60 or over you may get Winter Fuel Payments to help pay for keeping warm in winter. This can be between £125 and £400 depending on your situation.
