Crowdfunding

Crowdfunding is a way to raise money, awareness, and support for great ideas, mainly using the internet and social media.

Crowdfunding allows individuals to turn their ideas into reality by promoting projects and giving away rewards in return for pledges of money.

Types of crowdfunding

There are five main types of crowdfunding:

Equity

"Dragons' Den" type funding, so a backer would receive a chunk of the business.

Lending

Done in the same way as a bank but with lots of people, so peer to peer lending.

Rewards-based

Where the rewards are not financial but a range of offers depending on the project.

Community share

A mix of rewards-based and equity. It's an effective way for groups to raise money that benefits a particular community.

Donation-based

A way to raise funds for a business, project, or charity. It works by asking lots of people to donate small amounts of money for no specific tangible return.
