Angus Glens Walking Festival 2012 – Book Your Place Now!
The highly successful Angus Glens Walking Festival launches its online booking service for the 2012 event this week.
Celebrating its tenth year, the four day walking festival offers a packed programme of 28 walks as well as three evenings of top food, music and entertainment.
The festival runs from Thursday 31 May to Sunday 3 June 2012, and there are a wide choice of walks to suit walkers of all levels of fitness and ability. In past years, the festival has proved extremely popular with many walkers booking their places within days of the online booking launch. Spaces are limited so you are advised to book early!
‘I believe The Angus Glens Walking Festival has grown over the years because of the fantastic range of walks we offer,’ said Tom McGrath, Chair of the Festival. ‘Some of our walks, such as Jocks Road and Airlie Ridge are very popular and appear in the programme every year. However, we always like to introduce new walks. This year one of our new walks titled Eagle Watch gives you a chance to see breeding Golden Eagles as they search for prey for their young, an excellent opportunity to see these majestic birds in their natural environment.
Tom continues, ‘We always try to have a very balanced programme, with extremely strenuous hikes for fit, adventurous walkers, and moderate walks for those who like to take it easy. We also have an all abilities walk on each day of the festival, all of which are wheelchair accessible. What all our walks have in common is that they take place in beautiful countryside, and are guided by experienced mountain leaders and countryside rangers who can answer any questions you have about your surroundings.’
The programme of evening events is also very popular. On Thursday there is an interesting and informative talk on the wildlife of the Galapagos Islands by one of our own Countryside Rangers, followed by a hearty supper. The Taste of Angus event returns on Friday, giving walkers the chance to sample the best in local food and entertainment. And on Saturday the ever popular ceilidh supper gives walkers the opportunity to dance the night away.
