Angus Council is set to begin a programme of energy efficiency works to homes in Montrose Street and Poets Place, Brechin. These works are part of our ongoing efforts to improve housing quality, make homes warmer, and reduce energy costs for residents.
The improvement works will include:
- New windows to improve insulation and reduce heat loss.
- Cavity wall insulation extraction and refill to ensure existing insulation is effective.
- External Wall Insulation (EWI) to add an extra layer of protection to homes, helping to keep them warmer for longer.
Together, these measures will make homes more comfortable and energy-efficient, helping to lower heating bills and cut carbon emissions.
Funding has been secured through the Scottish Government’s Area Based Scheme (ABS). This funding helps private homeowners take part in local energy efficiency projects alongside council properties, whilst delivering emission savings and helping reduce fuel poverty.
Our appointed contractor, Cardo Ltd, has been carrying out surveys in the area to prepare for the work, with window replacement works having commenced for some properties already in the Montrose Street area.
Residents have been contacted by our contractor with further details of the planned works, and we’ll do our best to keep any disruption to a minimum while the improvements are carried out.
This project supports Angus Council’s commitment to improving housing across the area. By investing in energy efficiency, we are reducing fuel poverty and contributing to national climate change targets as well as creating better homes and a more sustainable future for our communities.
Housing Convener Cllr Jill Scott said, “I am so excited that these works have started. Having a warm, secure home is so important and anything that helps get our residents further out of fuel poverty is most welcome. I know it will cause a bit of disruption, but it will be worth it when the whole block gets a much-needed face-lift. It’s also true that Brechin knows better than most places that we absolutely need to pay attention to minimising climate change and do what we can to support environmental improvements.”
