Rail works mean four-week closure for Monifieth Recycling Centre

Published on Friday 8 January 2021

Maintenance work by Network Rail means that our recycling centre at Monifieth will close temporarily from Friday 22 January.

The railworks being carried out at the Barry Level Crossing will prevent access of high-sided vehicles Monifieth Recycling Centre that are required to service skips on site. This closure is expected to be in place for approximately four weeks.

Other recycling centres are unaffected. It is recommended that anyone who needs to attend at a recycling centre and who normally uses the services at Monifieth, attends instead at either Arbroath or Carnoustie centres.

The recycling centre at Arbroath, Cairnie Loan, DD11 4DS, is open Monday to Sunday 9.15am to 4pm. Smaller vehicles such as cars and small vans do not need to pre-book a visit. Transit-type vans and trailers must be pre-booked.

Attendance at Carnoustie, Balmachie Road, DD7 7ST, like Monifieth, is by appointment only. Bookings can be made online.

Carnoustie is currently open from 10am to 4pm (closed 12.30pm to 1pm) on every day except Tuesdays and Thursdays.

See our recycling centre web pages for further information.

In contrast to the first COVID-19 lockdown in Scotland, attending at a local recycling centre is a valid reason to travel under the Scottish Government restrictions.

We would, however, ask that people only make this journey if it is absolutely necessary - for example, if you have excess waste at home that is causing an obstruction and cannot be safely stored at home.

And finally…the digital gremlins have been kicked to the kerb and our Bin Collections Days information web page is back on track and working properly again. Please be assured, there have been no changes to your collection dates.
