Vehicle exclusion zones at Ferryden Primary School, Muirfield Primary School and Langlands Primary School in Angus are set to continue when children return to school on Wednesday 11 August 2021.
The 18-month trial stops vehicles (except for emergency services, residents with permit holders and blue badge holders) from entering certain streets during term time in the morning and afternoon to improve road safety and encourage families to school to walk, cycle or scoot to school.
Communities Committee Convener, Cllr Mark Salmond said: “The school exclusion zones introduced around three school in Angus will continue when children return to school on Wednesday.
“We’ll be looking at certain markers throughout the trial including air quality, traffic volumes, road accidents, congestion and the update of active travel by pupils and families. Early indications are already showing that the restriction of vehicles within the zones have resulted in better air quality, reducing the exposure of harmful pollution to pupils from vehicles to pupils. We’ll keep monitoring this during the 18-month trial before the council decides whether or not to make these changes permanent.”
Traffic restriction times during term time:
8:30am – 9:15am and 2:45pm – 3:45pm for Langlands Primary school
8:30am - 9.30am and 2.45pm - 3.45pm for Ferryden Primary School and Muirfield Primary School.
Residents living in the streets effected will be to apply for a permit exempting them from restrictions through our website.
