We are introducing a new recycling service that will see unwanted carpets transformed into state-of-the-art horse riding surfaces.
From next Monday (23 November), skips will be in place at Arbroath and Carnoustie recycling centres for carpet and underlay. Initially a pilot project, if successful it is hoped the scheme can be rolled out to other centres.
So, if you are replacing a carpet and looking to get rid of it, take a ride to either Arbroath or Carnoustie recycling centre, where we’re happy to accept it, whether it’s threadbare or as shaggy as the day it was bought. Bring along your underlay if that’s on the way out too. Traders can dispose of carpet from a house clearance etc. but will need to pay for a commercial waste disposal ticket to do so.
Please check our website for recycling centre opening times and remember you must book in advance to attend at Carnoustie Recycling Centre whatever type of vehicle you are using. Larger vans and trailers must pre-book to use the Arbroath Recycling Centre.
We cannot accept carpet tiles, vinyl flooring or wood/laminate flooring as part of this service.
See our website for more information on our bins and recycling service.
The carpets and underlay will be destined for a renewed life – shredded, baled and bound for use as high-end equestrian surface fibre. This provides a stable surface for horses and reduces strain and injury risk at arenas and training enclosures.
