Update on storm damage to Burnside Primary School

Published on Tuesday 21 February 2023

Burnside Primary School in Carnoustie will re-open to all Primary 1-7 classes from Monday, 27 February.

Work has been ongoing to assess the level of damage that Storm Otto caused to the school on Friday (17 Feb) and to secure the building so that pupils and staff can return safely.

The school is currently closed following the resumption of the school term as a result of the significant storm damage and will remain closed to all children for the remainder of this week.

But we gave an assurance that an update would be provided at the earliest opportunity, and are now able to confirm that, based on current information, it will be possible to re-open the school to P1-7 classes from Monday.

Some operational changes will be needed to allow the school to re-open and further information relevant to this will be provided directly to our Burnside Primary School families by the Head Teacher as soon as these details are confirmed.

Children and families should be aware that, while we aim to re-open the building from Monday next week, a programme of repair works will be underway, with construction work taking place on site.

Again, fuller details of planned works and any anticipated disruption will be shared with our families once confirmed, and people should be assured that the school will be safe and secure during these works.

Early Learning and Childcare Children who normally attend Burnside Nursery will continue to attend Carnoustie Early Learning and Childcare Centre, Pitskelly Park, Carnoustie, DD7 7BF on a temporary basis. This arrangement is expected to be in place until at least Friday 31 March 2023. Further updates will be provided in due course.

Anyone with any queries or who requires further information can please contact Head Teacher, Mrs Jacquelynn Goodwin, Head Teacher, via the school’s phone number 01241 465371 or email Burnside@angusschools.org.uk

Thank you for your continued understanding and support.
