This week our waste teams at Forfar Recycling Centre were joined by Communities Convener Cllr Tommy Stewart as he was given an update on the new recycling pilot at the centre.
Visitors to the centre are being supported to ensure that any waste bound for the non-recyclable skip does not contain anything that could be recycled.
Over the first three days of the pilot, which is supported by Zero Waste Scotland, over 338 kgs of waste was diverted to recycling.
Every little bit extra that we can recycle helps reduce our processing costs and makes the centre more efficient - and your waste gets another life. And the money that we save on processing costs can be diverted back into other frontline services such as social care and schools.
Angus is one of the most efficient recycling council areas. It costs us less to recycle your waste than to incinerate it. However if it can't be recycled, it will make the short journey to Baldovie incinerator to be processed into power for the area. Last year less than 0.8% of your household waste from Angus went to landfill.
