October holiday 2021 – free bus travel and ASN offer

Free bus travel

From 2 to 17 October  Angus Council is providing free bus travel throughout Angus (and to and from Dundee) for:

  • all children under 12 accompanied by one adult
  • young people aged 12 to 22 who have a National Entitlement/Young Scot Card

You will receive a digital bus pass via school groupcall before 2 October.


Transport for families unable to use buses

Families who have children/young people with additional support needs (and are unable to use local buses) may access free transport by calling one of the numbers below. Please use a service local to your area and quote “Holiday Fun” when booking.

Fun learning activities based around reducing food waste and the impact on the environment

Also includes a S-Mart Meal Kit with recipe and ingredients for the family to cook together.

For any family who are eligible for free school meals or school clothing grant.

Then daily from Monday 11 to Friday 15 October.

Kirriemuir Fire Station

Drop into Kirriemuir Fire Station between 11.30am and 1.30pm from Monday 4 to Friday 8 October.

Get home fire safety advice and grab a bite to eat. Let the kids see the Fire Engine while you’re here.

Welfare Rights will also be on station Wednesday and Friday should you need any advice regarding various benefits and income maximisation.

Part of Challenge Poverty Week: Scottish Fire and Rescue Service working in partnership with Kirrie Food Hub and Angus Council.

Strathmore Rugby Club 

Youth Unified Rugby

For S1 to S6s with additional support needs. Participants must be able to walk unaided.

The session is open to players without ASNs of the same age too who would act as enablers for the session. 

Forfar Community Campus: Wednesday 6 October and Wednesday 13 October, 4.30 to 5.30pm

There are weekly sessions on a Wednesday after school at Forfar Community Campus should participants want to continue their activity.


Autism-friendly rugby: regular sessions

Open to any child of primary school age with or undergoing a diagnosis of autism, plus their sibling (of primary school age).

Forfar: Friday 8 October, 5pm to 6pm (currently full)

Forfar: Sunday 10 October, 4pm to 5pm (currently full)

Autism Friendly Rugby Camp

For P1 to P7’s with or undergoing an autism diagnosis or sensory processing difficulties plus their siblings. Siblings must also be of primary school age but can be neurotypical.

Paddle to Peddle

From Paddle to Peddle, come and try our introduction to paddle boarding, a great safe space to learn a new skill, instruction provided, then jump on our bikes, whether it be our side by side, tandem trike, recumbent or mountain bikes to explore the park or trails of Monikie.

Sensory Poetry Walk

Walk with our guide around Forfar Loch to observe and collect sensory images from nature, using the sights and sounds, smells and textures of what you encounter outdoors to connect with the poetry. Also in easy read format.
