Winter gritting and snow clearing

Find or refill a grit bin

Grit is provided on a self-help basis for community use. Grit is for use in public areas, not private paths and drives. If a grit bin is not looked after or is repeatedly vandalised, it will be removed.

Scroll and zoom the map to your area. Grit bin locations are indicated by a yellow square.

Grit bins are located in areas that are not on a priority gritting route.

When deciding on the location of a grit bin, we will take into account a number of issues such as:

  • if a route is on a steep slope, on a tight bend or particularly prone to icing
  • if local residents agree on a suitable location
  • where there is special need such as near sheltered houses, or a school crossing patrol

To request a grit bin in your area, or a refill for an existing grit bin, complete our online enquiries & requests form.

At busy times we may be dealing with a high number of requests and will deal with your request as soon as we can.

We do not sell salt to the public.
