Register your marriage

 

You can be married in either of the following ways:

  • a religious marriage
  • a civil marriage, which can take place in a registration office or at an approved venue.

Each of you must complete and submit a marriage notice, along with the required documents to the registrar for the district where the marriage is to take place.

After your marriage

After your marriage has been registered, you will receive a certificate of the marriage entry in the register.

Additional extracts can be obtained at the time of registration, or within a month, for £10 each. After a month the cost will be £15 for the first extract then £10 per subsequent extract.

Fees 

Fees include:

  • the statutory fees for Civil Marriage Notice at £45 per person
  • one civil partnership certificate at £10
  • ceremony fee of £55
  • accommodation fee where applicable

There is an additional premium for registrations in evenings, Saturday, Sunday or Public Holidays.

*The lower fee applies to an office registration/ceremony where there are 10 people or fewer present, including the main party.

Check with your local office to see the maximum amount of guests who can be present at your ceremony.
