Health and safety inspections

We carry out workplace health, safety and welfare inspections.

The frequency of these inspections is calculated following risk assessment of each premises.

If a business fails to meet the required health and safety standards, we can serve a notice requiring the proprietor to take action.

We can also serve a notice that prevents the use of an item of equipment or larger part of the business.

In some circumstances we will report matters to the Procurator Fiscal.

We have a duty to investigate certain workplace incidents. Employers, the self-employed and people in control of work premises must report certain serious workplace accidents, occupational diseases and specified dangerous occurrences. Reports should be made via the HSE website.

You should notify our environmental health service via ACCESSLine on 03452 777 778 when you start a new business, move business or take over an existing business.

For more information on your health and safety obligations as a business visit the Health and Safety Executive's (HSE) website.
