Community councils gather and represent the views of local people to the council and other bodies.
Community councils are consulted on planning applications and have one person as their point of contact for all planning matters.
Angus has 25 community councils. Aberlemno and Friockheim are not currently operational.

Becoming a community councillor
To become a community councillor, you must be:
- at least 16 years old
- on the electoral roll
- resident within the community council area
If you are interested in becoming a community councillor you should contact the community council chair or go along to the next community council meeting.

Elections
There are community council elections held every four years. The next elections will be held in October 2022.
A number of community councils currently have vacancies which can be filled by co-option to the community council.
