What we need and why

The council is the ‘Data Controller’ of the personal data you provide to us. We only collect personal data about you which we need to allow us to pursue vehicle owners in relation to illegally parked vehicles in order to issue Penalty Charge Notices.

This will include your name, contact details and vehicle details.

Who we share information with

We will share this information with third parties, but only where it is necessary, either to comply with the law or where permitted under legislation.

Organisations we may share your information with include:

  • Police Scotland
  • DVLA
  • Chipside Ltd – our system administrator.
  • Sherriff Officers

What we do with it

Your personal information is held on servers within the EEA and processed by our staff in the UK. 

The council maintains data protection controls in line with the General Data Protection Regulation, other data protection legislation and its own Information Security Policy to ensure the effective and secure processing of your personal information.

How long we keep it

We will not keep your information for any longer than it is needed and will dispose of both paper and electronic records in a secure way. 

The DVLA require a retention period of two years for data provided by them for audit purposes. 

How we store your personal information

Your information is stored securely.

  • Vehicle Registration Mark information and data relating to registered keepers is stored on our parking enforcement back-office system by our processor (Chipside) on their servers.
