Provision of wheelchair accessible taxi and private hire vehicles

Within Committee report 369/17, Angus Civic Licensing Committee was advised of the commencement of sections 165 and 167 of the Equality Act 2010 on 6 April 2017.  Members were asked to note the commencement and agreed to:

  1. Commence a consultation exercise to inform the decision as to whether there is unmet need in respect of the provision of wheelchair accessible taxi and private hire vehicles in Angus.
  2. The consultation is to include users of wheelchair accessible vehicles, the taxi and private hire trade, groups and agencies involved in protecting and promoting the interests of users of wheelchair accessible vehicles, other agencies involved in the licensing of taxi and private hire vehicles and local bus companies.

Views were sought as to whether there was unmet need in the Angus area in respect of the provision of wheelchair accessible taxi and private hire vehicles.

Report 75/18 was considered by members of the Civic Licensing Committee on 22 February 2018.

The Committee noted the responses to the consultation, determined that there is unmet need for wheelchair accessible taxi and private hire vehicles in the Angus area and agreed to commence a consultation exercise with taxi and private hire operators and drivers, to inform the decision as to how best to address unmet need in respect of the provision of wheelchair accessible taxi and private hire vehicles in Angus.
