Taxi and private hire vehicles – MOT and vehicle testing

Following consideration of Report 165/17, Angus Civic Licensing Committee authorised consultation with local businesses permitted to conduct MOT testing to ascertain their willingness to provide vehicle inspections within Angus. A further report is to be placed before a future Committee detailing the responses received.

The current arrangement for vehicle testing is with Dundee City Council. The testing facilities in Dundee are utilised by Angus Council.  Attached is a copy of the current Angus Council Vehicle Inspection Checklist for information (which is currently under review).  All taxi and private hire vehicles must meet the requirements of the Checklist annually.  

Further agreement has been reached with Dundee City Council to offer MOT's at the same time as vehicle inspections.  The cost of the MOT test is £11.  The cost of vehicle inspections is met by Angus Council and forms part of the fee charged for applications for taxi and private hire vehicles.  The average cost being £72.00.
