Request title | Transportation of polytunnel |
Area | Forfar |
Benefit type | Services / transport |
Details | Forfar Open Garden have very kindly been donated a large Polytunnel frame by a farmer in Angus to form the centrepiece of our indoor food-growing activities at our new site at Guthrie Park in Forfar. This is a brilliant donation which will allow us to more than double our indoor growing space, and provide much bigger opportunities for the community to be involved in, and supported by our sustainable food production and learn and experiment with new skills and approaches to self-sufficiency. Whilst this frame is not particularly cumbersome and has been fully dismantled, its has several long (6m / 20') single piece aluminium sections, and so is very difficult to transport by normal vehicles. We would be very grateful if anyone with access to a larger vehicle / trailer (tractor, articulated lorry) would be able to help us transport it down from near Careston to Forfar Open Garden on Lochside Road in Forfar. Whilst long, the frame is not unwieldy, and can be loaded and unloaded by hand, and Forfar Open Garden can ensure we have volunteers available at both ends to help with loading and unloading - we just transport/correct size of vehicles available to transport something this large down the road! |

Request title | Prepare shop for rental |
Area | Montrose |
Benefit type | Donation of time and services |
Details | We would like to request help to repair and paint the shop front of 54 High Street (old British Heart Foundation shop) in order for us to prepare this property for rental. Our focus for rental of our properties is to support new, sustainable and interesting businesses that bring something a little different to the High Street - think local makers, creative ventures, good food, culture, and ideas that add colour and life to Montrose. The local community have been part on ongoing engagement work and have highlighted the number of vacant shops on the high street and limited varied shopping facilities as being a key issue. This request being met will enable us to get tenant(s) into this property to start to generate more funds to use for improvement works for other properties which can then help to fund the bigger part of our project. |

Request title | Nursery garden work |
Area | Hillside, Montrose |
Benefit type | Donation of materials; donation of time, service and materials. |
Details | These works would also improve the look of the nursery garden for neighbouring properties. Our organisation would not have funds to undertake this work which has been previously quoted without support of Angus CONECT or alternative funding streams. This will benefit over 200 pupils who attend. The following works and materials have been suggested as a good solution and we'd like to ask if this project can support at all with these:

Organisation | Friends of the Fairy Steps |
---|---|
Request title | River Pebbles/Aggregate |
Area | Carnoustie and surrounding area |
Benefit type | Donation of materials |
Details | The request is for materials related to the restoration of the path. Specifically to request to request a donation of aggregate ( river pebbles ) measuring between 50mm - 100mm. If possible - smaller bags of pebbles would be preferred - as due to the nature of the path and its accessibility, transporting large amounts of material in a single trip would be difficult. Approximately 1 tonne of pebbles/aggregate is required. This is to complete a walkway that runs through a section of marshland on the path. This has already been partially completed but to enable this part of the path to be closer to completion. This aggregate would be used to shore up what is already been completed to enable a complete walkway over this marshland/flood plain section to be built. Friends of the Fairy steps is a constituted group that is undertaking the restoration of a historic right of way that links Panbride and Muirdrum. This path is known to be at least 167 years old in age. It fell into a state of disrepair in and was closed due to safety concerns in 2010. This is a community based project that has utilized volunteers , partnership with other community based groups , partnership working with the landowner and utilizing local tradesman. Significant restoration work has been undertaken since the formation of the constituted group. This has included rebuilding of the "fairy steps”, restoration of the initial stages of the path , installation of benches , creation of the second stages of the path and installation of fencing. Restoration work remains ongoing. This project is dependent on the involvement and input of the community for its restoration and general upkeep. |

Request title | Garden Tools (Single Hand Petrol Hand Strimmer/Bush Cutter) |
Area | Carnoustie and surrounding area |
Benefit type | Donation of materials |
Details | A request is being made for a single petrol hand held strimmer/bush cutter that can be utilized during organized volunteer days. This would be beneficial as it would reduce the amount of physical work and time that is required by volunteers for the maintenance of the path. If the request is fulfilled - the hand held petrol strimmer can be safely stored by a member of the constituted group - and used by volunteers during organized general maintenance days, which tend to take place 2/3 times per year. The restoration and general upkeep of this path is dependent carried out by members of the public due to its status as a Public Right of Way. This path takes a route through farmland and countryside. As such, there is often undergrowth such as nettles, brambles and wild grass that grow over the path surface during the summer months. Organized volunteer days have taken place for general upkeep of the path. Organisation | City of Brechin Pipe Band |
---|---|
Request title | Sponsorship of buses |
Area | Brechin |
Benefit type | Sponsorship/donation of service |
Details | We are looking for sponsorship of our buses to take the band to 3 major competitions this season, the European Championship, the World Championship and Pitlochry Highland Games. We need buses due to the amount of kit we carry and unfortunately these are becoming increasingly more expensive. 20 band members as well as 15 learners will benefit from attending and participating in these competitions This is a large expense for us and would mean the fundraising we do throughout the year can go to buying more new kit for our band and learners instead of towards buses. As we represent the local community at these events it makes residents of the area proud to see their local bands appearing. We also promote Angus on a global scale at international events. Last year was the first year our band went out competing for many years and the feedback we got from other bands as well as general members of the public was all positive with many people saying how great it was to see us out competing again, this raises the profile of Brechin and Angus. We provide free lessons for anyone who wants to learn to play the bagpipes or to drum in a pipe band. We encourage learners whether they are young or old to progress their learning until they are able to play in the main band. The main band play at and support local Gala days, highland games and other events as well as playing at Major Completions representing Brechin & Angus. We are the oldest recorded civilian pipe band in the country and so are trying to keep the tradition going. As this can be an expensive activity we try to keep our costs as low as possible by supplying instruments and uniform for free where possible or for a low subsidised cost as we want to make this as accessible as we can for everyone to enjoy. |
