Learning Reviews are a national process for reviewing cases where there has been multi-agency involvement.
The Learning Review process has set criteria and can be used as an improvement method and to highlight good practice.
The purpose of a Learning Review is to bring together agencies, individuals and families to learn from what has happened in order to improve and develop systems and practice in the future and better protect children, young people and adults.
Learning Reviews were previously known as Significant Case Reviews (SCR’s).
Guidance
National Guidance is available for Adult and Child Reviews:
Adult support and protection: learning review guidance
National Guidance For Child Protection Committees Undertaking Learning Reviews
Dundee and Angus have worked together to develop shared guidance for multi-agency staff for Learning Reviews in both areas. The guidance allows for reviews around Child Protection, Adult Protection and Gender Based Violence.
It also recognises other local area processes that may take place alongside or in place of Learning Reviews.
The Dundee and Angus Guidance is under review. A final version will be added to this page shortly.
The Angus Learning Review Group
The Angus Learning Review Group is a Delivery Group that is overseen by the Protecting People Angus Strategic Committee.
They consider requests for local reviews and oversee the process around this.
Once a review has taken place the implementation of recommendations is overseen by the Self Evaluation and Continuous Improvement (SECI) Delivery Group. The group also have a role in looking at other areas published reviews and establishing if the learning is relevant to the Angus landscape.
In late 2024 the Learning Review Group has a focus on establishing their processes around the new guidance. From Spring 2025 the focus will be around ensuring that the multi-agency workforce are confident in submitting referrals and being part of any Learning Review processes. More information will follow around this.
