Organisations offering advice and support to ex-military personnel

The following organisations offer advice and support to ex-military personnel:

Aircrew Association
The Aircrew Association has branches at home and abroad where aircrew can meet and enjoy like-minded company. The association is open to all UK serving and retired military aircrew to give financial help and to record the  experiences of aircrew.

British Commonwealth Ex-Services
British Commonwealth Ex-Services helps ex-servicemen and women who served throughout the Commonwealth and who are now in need. Benevolence funds to people across the Commonwealth through ex-service organisations.

British Limbless Ex-Serviceman’s Association
The British Limbless Ex Service Men’s Association is the national charity for limbless serving and ex-service men and women and their dependants and widows. It directly supports all service men and women who lose limbs, the use of limbs or eyes or the sight of an eye in the service of their country.

Combat Stress
Combat Stress is UK’s leading military charity specialising in the care of veterans suffering from a psychological condition related to their service career such as depression, anxiety, a phobia or post-traumatic stress disorder.

Fares4Free
Fares4Free support veterans by providing free taxis to help veterans access essential services and perform daily tasks

Forces Families Jobs
Forces Families Jobs has employment and training opportunities for ex-military personnel and their spouses and families.

Regular Forces Employment Association
Regular Forces Employment Association helps those leaving the armed forces find and remain in employment.

Headway Tayside
Headway Tayside runs support groups and organises events and outings for people with brain injury, their carers and families.

Naval Families Federation
The Naval Families Federation represent the serving members of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines, their families and the reserves.

Officers’ Association Scotland
The Officers’ Association Scotland relieves distress among all those who have at any time held a Sovereign’s Commission in HM Naval, Military or Air Forces and their wives, husbands, widows, widowers, children and dependants. Includes reserve, auxiliary or territorial forces.

Open University
The Disabled Veterans Scholarship Fund will offer 50 disabled veterans, injured in, or due to, military service, access to free Open University education.

RFEA - The Forces Employment Charity
RFEA provide through life employment support for all veterans. Access to regional employment advisors, employer relations and armed forces job boards.

Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA)
The Royal Air Forces Association provides friendship and welfare support to serving and ex-serving members of the RAF and their families.

Royal British Legion 
Whether you are coming to the end of your period of service or you have recently left, the Royal British Legion gives you information and resources to help you into a civilian career.

Royal British Legion Scotland
The Royal British Legion Scotland cares for all veterans as well as serving personnel and their families.

Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH)
The Scottish Association for Mental Health provides information on good mental health and common mental health problems such as depression, and can also signpost you to local services.

SSAFA Forces Help
SSAFA can help identify what grants or benefits you might be entitled to.

SSAFA Stepping Stone Homes
SSAFA's Stepping Stone Homes based in both the North East and the South of England provide short-term supported accommodation, help and advice to female service or ex-serving personnel, the female spouses or partners of serving or ex-serving personnel, and their dependent children.

Tayside Substance Misuse Services (Angus)
Tayside Substance Misuse Services is an area wide service delivering treatment for addictions. For referrals/enquiries call 01241 435820.

Tayside Harm Reduction Services
The specialist harm reduction team provides information and advice on safer drug use, safer injecting practices, and alternatives to injecting, BBV prevention, overdose awareness and sexual health. Clinics are held throughout Tayside. For an appointment call 01382 204248.

Unforgotten Forces
Support for veterans over 65 and their families from Poppy Scotland.

Veterans First Point
Veteran First Point is a combination of mental health professionals and veterans with personal experience of military life, working in partnership with local veterans' agencies and organisations.

Veterans Aid
Veterans Aid relieves distress among ex-servicemen and women, including the merchant service, and their widows or widowers who are unemployed, homeless, or for some reasonable cause, in need. The organisation can help vulnerable veterans with accommodation, food and clothing and advice and advocacy.

Veterans Assist Scotland
Veterans Assist Scotland is a portal with information on all aspects of veteran life including employment, finances, housing, health and wellbeing.

Veterans' Gateway
Veterans' Gateway is a single point of contact for the military community to access advice and guidance from a range of issues.

Veterans Scotland
Veterans Scotland is an association of 53 organisations connected either wholly or partially by the common aim of working with the veterans’ community in Scotland.

Veterans Shareline

Veterans UK
Veterans-UK is the single point of contact within the Ministry of Defence for veterans and their dependants seeking help, information and advice. Can answer queries directly or put callers in touch with an appropriate organisation who can help. Also responsible for claims for and administration of War Disablement Pensions and War Widows Pensions, together with claims under the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme.

Veterans Welfare Service
The Veterans Welfare Service is committed to enhancing the quality of life for Veterans and beneficiaries of pensions and compensation schemes, and all their dependants. It also focuses on providing support that will enable the seamless transition from service to civilian life, assists bereaved families or respond to key life events that present welfare needs.

War Widows Association
The War Widows Association is a pressure group to improve conditions of war widows and their dependants in Great Britain. The War Widows Association also represents those who have suffered the loss of their partner in peacetime, when the death was attributable to their service life.
