The Angus Youth Orchestra and members of the Angus School’s Pipe Band, all young musicians from secondary schools across Angus have recently returned from a successful concert tour of Belgium.

The orchestra performed in Bruges, Ghent and De Panne, delivering a varied musical programme that included Hamish McCunn’s ‘The Land of the Mountain and the Flood, James Horner’s ‘For the Love of a Princess’ from ‘Braveheart’, The Proclaimers ‘500 Miles’, Run Rig’s ‘Loch Lomond’, and many more pieces with a Scottish flavour.

The performances were listened to by enthusiastic Belgian audiences, who enjoyed hearing the bagpipes, and the varied melodies of Scottish classical, folk, pop and rock music, with the highlight of the performances being the bagpipes accompanied by the orchestra!

The Orchestra will be back in action in September at the Angus Council’s Instrumental Music Service’s annual ‘Bands & Orchestras’ concert in the Reid Hall, Forfar on Wednesday 24 September.

Keep your eyes and ears open for an exciting collaboration with the Tayside Symphony Orchestra in June 2026 too!
