The door is open as Angus welcomes visitors
Buildings and sites across Angus will be welcoming the public on 10 and 11 September 2022 when they take part in this year’s Doors Open Days.
2022 marks the 33rd year of Doors Open Days, a free festival that sees organisations and volunteers offer free access to sites and events across Scotland. The festival aims to ensure that Scotland’s cultural heritage is made accessible to everyone living in and visiting the county.
Across Angus doors will be opened wide, welcoming visitors to uncover hidden gems and experience familiar places through fresh eyes. Visitors can access a free programme of talks, walks and tours right on their doorstep and further afield.
There are more than 20 venues taking part in Doors Open Days across Angus. Along with favourites such as Balmashanner War Memorial in Forfar, the Royal Observer Corps Post Museum in Arbroath and Montrose Basin Visitor Centre, there are also a number of new venues on the programme for 2022.
New for 2022; visit the former Sheriff Courthouse in Arbroath to enjoy a guided tour and find out more about its history, drop in to the medieval Brechin Cathedral to have a look around and enjoy a talk, take part in an interactive Pie Making masterclass at Wee Cook Kitchen in Carnoustie, or visit your local sports centre to get a tour of the facilities available or enjoy a taster class.
Many of the venues included in the Doors Open Days programme are not often open to the public – Kinnaird Castle in Brechin, Airlie Monument near Kirriemuir and the Glamis Manse Cross Slab to name a few. Don’t miss the opportunity to see these fascinating venues and learn about the rich heritage of Angus.

Doors Open Days national coordinator and Director of Scottish Civic Trust, , Dr Susan O’Connor, said, “Doors Open Days offers visitors the opportunity to play ‘tourist’ in their own town for free, as they uncover new experiences and revisit old favourites right on their doorstep.
“This year, we hope our visitors take this opportunity to make new memories with their friends and families, while they celebrate the stories that have shaped Scotland.”
