Traill Drive Storm Repairs

Published on Friday 8 December 2023

Temporary repairs to the promenade area at Montrose’s Traill Drive are now complete.

Significant stretches of the promenade collapsed as a result of tidal damage, high winds and relentless rain during and after Storm Babet, leading to the roads and footpath’s emergency closure.

Rock armour now fills the voids that appeared and the contractor Delson Contracts Ltd has compacted it down at ground level. Rock armour has also been placed in the damaged areas of the sloped front wall and other parts of the wall have had concrete infill to voids where it has been possible to work from the land side.

A permanent repair has been completed at the Coastguard Station. The damaged dune has been filled and reinstated. The damaged road has been excavated, voids filled, and then the road and verge reinstated.

This has allowed the northern access road to be re-opened as far as the car park and gives the Coastguard access to their building again.

Please be aware that the promenade remains fenced off for the time being and this includes the step access on to the beach. This area will not be safe to access until a permanent repair is done. A design for this is currently being drawn up with work set to take place next year.

The road along the front remains closed to vehicles just now but is accessible for pedestrians. Cars can still access either of the car parks in the area.
