Two Angus Council Children, Families and Justice teams have been nominated for an annual awards programme the Scottish Social Services Awards, organised by The Scottish Government and Institute for Research and Innovation in Social Services (Iriss).

The Quality and Review Team’s PREpare project are nominated for the Excellence in Children’s Services award and The Strathmore Centre for Outstanding Residential Care Service.

The Quality and Review Team have designed and implemented PREpare, an innovative social work led model to improve the experience of families involved in child protection. The focus is on listening to the voices of children, looking at risks and strengths from a child’s point of view. Evaluations show that parents who took part in a PREpare meeting were more engaged in the child protection process and helped plan for the care and safety of their children.

The Strathmore Centre provides short breaks for children with a disability but what they do goes far beyond caring for the children, as it also includes supporting and involving their families. The service takes a rights enabling approach and supports the children to “dream big” organising “bucket list” activities that can at times be difficult for people with disabilities to access.

Entries across all categories of the Scottish Social Services Awards were reviewed, scored, and discussed at length to identify the deserving individuals, teams and organisations who demonstrate best practice in the social services sector.

Convenor of Children and Learning Cllr Lynne Devine said:

“Both services have every reason to be proud of their nomination for this year’s Scottish Social Services Awards. Their commitment and dedication to providing the best for our children and families is Angus is well-deserved through this recognition.

“I wish both services good luck for the upcoming award ceremony in Glasgow on the 23 November.”
