We are proud to support Foster Care Fortnight (running from Monday 12 May to Sunday 25 May), the UK’s leading campaign dedicated to raising awareness of the transformational difference foster carers play in the lives of children and young people.

This year’s theme, ‘Together We Make a Difference’, highlights the vital role that relationships play in fostering between children, foster carers, social workers, families and the wider community.

Throughout the fortnight, the council’s fostering and adoption team will share stories on their social media channels from local foster carers and staff to celebrate how meaningful relationships support children and young people in care.

To help raise awareness, the fostering and adoption team is holding a Charity Bake Sale on Thursday 15 May, from 10:30am to 1:00pm at Bruce House, Arbroath. The event is open to the public and will feature delicious treats made by staff. All proceeds will go toward supporting local children’s charity.

Later in the month, the team are holding a Fostering and Adoption Drop-in Session at Brechin Castle Garden Centre on Monday 26 May, from 10:00am to 2:00pm. This is a relaxed opportunity for anyone curious about fostering or adoption to come and chat with the friendly team and foster carers to ask questions or pick up information to learn how they can help make a difference in a child’s life.

Kirsty Lee, Angus Council’s Interim Director of Children, Families and Justice and Chief Social Work Officer said:

“Foster Care Fortnight is a chance to celebrate the incredible commitment of our foster carers, who open their hearts and homes to children and young people across Angus. The relationships they build truly change lives, and we are grateful for everything they do.

“But we also know that we need more local people to come forward to meet the growing need for safe, supportive and loving homes for children and young people who can’t be with their family.

“If you’ve ever thought about fostering, I encourage you to reach out to learn more - pop by the team’s bake sale in Arbroath, drop-in session in Brechin, visit the fostering and adoption website or give our team a call. Together, we can make a difference.”
