Pay gap report 2021

Disability

  • 1.6% of our workforce has a disability
  • 6.7% of our workforce does not have a disability
  • 91.7% of our workforce has not disclosed whether they have a disability or not

Our overall average percentage pay gap for those with a disability is 12.3%. It should be noted however that for a number of jobs a 100% overall pay gap is showing. In each case this is because we have very low numbers of employees in these jobs of which none are disabled. If we remove those jobs showing a 100% pay gap the average percentage pay gap drops to 5.5%.

Across our local government salary scales our overall average disability pay gap is 22.4%. For our more highly populated salary scales LG3, 4 and 7 our averages show that those with a disability in these areas are paid slightly more. 87.9% of employees in local government pay scales have not disclosed whether they have a disability or not.

Chief Officer employees show 100% pay gap however 78.8% of those employed at that level have not disclosed whether they have a disability or not plus this is an area of fewer jobs and therefore fewer employees.

Across our teaching jobs there is an 82.7% overall average disability pay gap however 96.7% of employees under teachers pay scales have not disclosed whether they have a disability or not. Of those who have disclosed a disability in our most populated Common Teacher Scale we have an average disability pay gap of -5.7% showing that those with a disability in this area are paid on average a higher hourly rate.

This data provides a summary of the information we have available. Due to 91.7% of our overall workforce not disclosing whether they have a disability or not the figures noted can not accurately reflect the true picture of any disability pay gap in the organisation.

2011 Scottish Census results in Angus showed 81% denoted they did not consider themselves to have a disability and 19% of the Angus population denoted they do have a disability.

We will continue to encourage all employees to complete their equality data and explain why this data is collected.

We will continue to ensure our recruitment processes are robust and fair. Please note that Angus Council promotes and follows the Guaranteed Job Interview Scheme.
