About asbestos

Asbestos is a naturally occurring fibrous material which was widely used to make building materials rigid and fire resistant until the late 1990s.

As long as asbestos is not disturbed or broken, it is not a danger.

Asbestos may have been used in a number of parts of your property, such as:

  • insulating board
  • slates
  • felt for roofs
  • decorative coatings to ceilings (Artex)
  • bath panels
  • gutters and downpipes
  • fire doors and door frames
  • floor tiles
  • roof space insulation and tank supports
  • external soffits and fascias
  • lagging - used for thermal insulation of pipes and boilers
  • vent/heating flue pipes in attic space
