Consultation and design engagement

Throughout the project there have been a number of consultations and engagements with the public and stakeholders to allow the brief to be formed and the design to be finalised.This has included:

  • A consultation investigating the opportunities for inclusion within the new Monifieth Learning Campus, completed in Spring 2021;
  • A further consultation regarding the inclusion or otherwise of Monifieth Public Library within the development, completed in September 2021;
  • Engagement with Police Scotland regarding the potential sharing of space within Monifieth Learning Campus, completed in March 2022;
  • Pre-planning application engagement events, completed between July and September 2022.

As a result of the engagement at the early stages of the project the following options were agreed:

  • Inclusion of an early learning and childcare facility;
  • Inclusion of a replacement swimming pool and sports block;
  • Inclusion of an allowance of additional area to increase out of hours school use of sports facilities for the future;
  • Exclusion of Monifieth Public Library from the development;
  • Exclusion of Police Scotland facilities from the development.

Following the development of initial designs there were a number of Pre-planning engagement events. As a result of this engagement, the following design developments were made:

  • Relocation of a new access path from West of the site was relocated to the North West corner;
  • Improved bus drop off arrangements via a dedicated ‘saw-tooth’ parking arrangement separated from pedestrian access to the main entrance;
  • Retention of existing single access point to site leading to larger bus drop off, a drop off lay-by for cars and increased on-site parking in comparison to the existing school;
  • Inclusion of acoustic fence at synthetic pitch to address concerns on pitch location;
  • Building expansion proposal identifying how the new building could be extended if required;
  • Variety of toilet provisions developed including cellular male / female toilet rooms; open plan with male / female split; individual uni-sex single toilet facilities;
  • Renewable technologies alongside Passivhaus certification for the building, including a large solar PC array on the roof and heat source provided by air source heat pumps to minimise the building’s carbon footprint.
