Childminders look after children in their own home. They are self-employed so set their own charges and hours of business. They are inspected and registered by the Care Inspectorate.

The law doesn't specify a minimum age for babysitters but if you ask someone under the age of 16 to babysit, you are held responsible if your child comes to any harm.
